For most, when asked “what is the show that got you interested in theatre?”, the answer inspires poetic words about Hammerstein, Sondheim or even Lin-Manuel Miranda. For me, it was everybody’s favorite 80’s musical that tells you to kick up your heels and cut loose. At 16, I fell head over heels (pun totally intended) in love with musical theatre playing Rusty in the Lincoln Community Playhouse’s production of Footloose. And the rest is, as they say, history.
Born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska I hopped onto I-80 to make Des Moines, Iowa and Drake University my collegiate home where I received my BFA in Acting and minor in Advertising graduating in 2008. Following a summer in New York City, I made the Twin Cities my artistic home discovering stories as an actor, director, producer, writer, educator and arts administrator for a wonderful decade. As of September 2018, I have headed to windier cities and am enjoying a new life adventure in Chicago.
I pursue all of my work guided by my artist statement:
I respect what was, appreciate what is, but I am most interested in what could be.
I have spent time both on and off the stage fulfilling my “adult life goal” to have a career in the arts. The Twin Cities allowed me to have a hand in supporting and developing the next generation of artists during a four year stint with Hennepin Theatre Trust and the Spotlight Musical Theatre Program (now Spotlight Education). Additionally, I discovered the deep and true power of the arts through diversity, inclusion and new work, learning from regional theater great and founding Artistic Director of Mixed Blood, Jack Reuler, as MBT’s Development Manager and eventual Chief Operating Officer from 2014-2016. During my final years in Minneapolis, I joined the team of Arts Ink, inc – a creative agency that works primarily with nonprofit performing arts organizations growing my marketing, project management, and organizational strategy skill set.
Now in Chicago, I spend my days with the Carol Fox & Associates team working as a Senior Account Executive. I am giddy to continue to put my arts background to use in an administrative setting helping to ensure the thriving culture of Chicago remains exciting and innovative. Are you a cultural organization in search of some marketing or PR for your company? Planning a gala and need an extra hand? Let’s connect. I know a few people who just might be able to help.
In March of 2019, a lifelong goal has come true as I step into the role of Artistic Director with Chicago’s home for new musicals, Underscore Theatre Company. Who wants to make some new musicals? Let’s do it, y’all.
While I am obsessed with working my way through a spreadsheet so that artists can be artists, my actor heartbeat never stops. Head on over to my performance resume and give me a ring if I can be of service. I also write sometimes and my fascination of vocabulary and actor intention finally found each other in the right place at the right time, sparking an endeavor as the book writer of For Tonight: A New Musical in collaboration with Spencer Williams & Shenelle Salcido. If you haven’t yet figured it out, I think the arts world is pretty rad. But there are a couple of things I loved before I fell for the performing arts: the Chicago Cubs and Nebraska Huskers. When not at the theatre, you’ll find me obsessing over ERAs, homeruns, screen plays and the meaningful history of both of these organizations. I like to call it “balance”.
No matter the project, I strive to create carefully, interact thoughtfully and live my work always with intention. But it’s way more fun to spark positive change together – do you want to join me? Let’s set the world aglow.
